Biography

David is an independent researcher, consultant and policy advisor working from his firm Convergent Strategies. His association with KMDI started in the early 1990s through a relationship with members of the Ontario Telepresence Project. As CEO of Digital 4Sight, David initiated the first of several international research projects on what he called “networked interactive multimedia”. David originated a new taxonomy of business models that includes “self-organization” (often described now as peer production) as an alternative to hierarchical approaches. It is described in his co-authored book, Digital Capital: Harnessing the Power of Business Webs (Harvard Business School Press, 2000). David continues to research, consult and write on these concepts. He is also involved in several policy and research initiatives on the globalization of knowledge work and Canadian competitiveness. David was a member of the first KMDI Advisory Committee and it’s great to welcome him back as a Research Fellow.
